Kicking the stigma of mental health, one blue tree at a time.
We’re proud to have joined the Blue Tree Project family as the official paint partner!
Blue Tree Project, a charity dedicated to changing the way we talk about mental health, has partnered with Wattyl, to extend the charity’s footprint and broadcast its message of hope and change in the discussion around mental health.
The story behind Blue Tree Project
Founded in West Australia by Kendall Whyte in 2019, Blue Tree Project was initially a means of helping Kendall bring some sense of positivity to the tragic, and needless, loss of her brother, Jayden, to suicide. Shortly before he died, Jayden had painted a dead tree in the bright, bold ultramarine blue of Wattyl Billie Jean.
What started as a small local initiative just six years ago, with the painting of one dead tree in Wattyl’s Billie Jean blue paint, has grown to a project of more than 1300 trees, painted in the same blue, across the globe – from Australia, Malaysia and China to the UK, Mozambique and Argentina, and even Antarctica!
Each and every blue tree, no matter where it is, is a powerful symbol of hope and today, Blue Tree Project is actively engaged in education, events, presentations and training on all aspects of mental health.
Wattyl has since changed the name of its Billie Jean paint colour to Blue Tree (CW 85.6), in recognition of the outstanding level of support the Blue Tree Project has contributed in the mental health arena – and has been supplying Blue Tree paint to the charity, in an unofficial capacity, ever since.
Now, in part due to its recognition of the importance of discussion and initiatives around mental health in its own tradie community, Wattyl has formalised the relationship with the announcement of an ongoing partnership.
